When Hospitality Walks the Talk

Hospitality is about people. Purpose is about meaning and is the very heart of organizational culture. When they meet, culture becomes the main business driver.

During a guest lecture at Les Roches MBA we looked at how the Purpose-Driven Business Canvas helps leaders to walk their talk.

To clarify the link between purpose, values, vision and mission — and translate it into authentic decisions and behaviors.

The Flandrien Hotel case shows this in action. The project:

  • built on endurance, teamwork and passion from cycling culture

  • turned a hotel into a cultural hub for cyclists worldwide

  • proved resilient during the pandemic by relying on its community

  • grew by keeping individual and organizational values aligned

We also discussed the cost of undermining the impact of culture on the business bottom line: lower engagement, talent loss, and lost innovation potential.

At the end, two questions every leader should keep on the table:

  1. What difference are we here to make?

  2. Do our actions match that ambition every day?
