We Don’t Need Work-Life Balance
We Never Needed Work-Life Balance — And We Never Will.
It has never been a matter of work-life balance.
It’s about seeing work as a calling — something long-term, purposeful, engaging, and challenging, worthy of our full dedication.
Today, many people make a lot of money selling the idea of work-life balance — a concept often mistaken as a kind of human right.
To our ancient ancestors, that would have sounded ludicrous.
People talk about work-life balance (even with school kids, which is worse) because they view work as something to endure rather than embrace — as a burden instead of an opportunity to express the best of who we are. In short, to express our humanity, our being human.
We don’t need — and never really needed — more leisure time. (Sorry for the travel industry!)
What we need is long-term, meaningful work, something we can commit to with clarity and intentionality.
